Diabetic and Nutrition Counseling

Having a baby is a journey that the healthcare team at Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies knows very well. We are committed to helping each expectant mother have the most successful pregnancy and delivery possible.

As part of our high-risk pregnancy services, women who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes, who have pre-existing diabetes, or who have weight issues may be referred by their doctors for diabetes education and/or nutritional counseling at the Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Center for Maternal Fetal Medicine. Diabetes education classes — led by certified diabetes educators — provide education regarding nutrition and meal planning, how and when to check blood sugars, diabetes medications that can be used in pregnancy, insulin instruction if needed, and more. Classes are also available in Spanish.

Maintaining proper body weight and glycemic control are key components for minimizing medical complications for both mother and baby during pregnancy, delivery and after delivery. Your healthcare team at Winnie Palmer Hospital will provide the guidance and support to help you successfully manage your diabetes throughout your pregnancy.
