Neonatal Transport with the Highest Level of Medical Support

The Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Transport Team is dedicated to the safe transfer of your newborn from a referring facility to our 142-bed NICU at Orlando Health Winnie Palmer. No parent plans on delivering a baby who needs a higher level of medical care, but should the need arise, our highly trained Neonatal Transport Team will ensure the safe transport of your precious newborn in our mobile NICU.

A Mobile NICU

Unlike a standard emergency service ambulance, our Mobile NICU is staffed with a highly skilled registered nurse, a respiratory therapist and an EMT/paramedic driver. An experienced neonatologist (newborn ICU doctor) is also available by phone at all times. In addition, the Mobile NICU has a specialized incubator and is capable of delivering a similar level of quality care as the NICU at Orlando Health Winnie Palmer. The Mobile NICU is also equipped to provide the most advanced medical services for newborns including Inhaled nitric oxide, active cooling for neurological protection, and ECMO: the heart/lung bypass machine for babies.

On Call 24/7 for Central Florida

Our experienced transport team works year-round and is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our Mobile NICU offers coast-to-coast coverage to nine Central Florida counties, all within a 75 -mile radius of Orlando Health Winnie Palmer, and we strive to be en route within 30 minutes of receiving a call on the transport line. Depending on the distance and the severity of a newborn’s illness, we can also employ Orlando Health’s AirCare Helicopter to deliver the Transport Team to the referring hospital, when time and/or distance is critical.

Due to the sensitive nature of the instruments on board, and for the safety of our newborn patients and staff, only patients can be transported to the hospital in the Mobile NICU. We will make every effort possible for you to spend time with your baby prior to departure, and will help to answer any questions you may have.
